So Fast So Frustrating aka How Is Han Back?????

So as most people know by now we’re preparing for the release of another fast and furious Adventure. This film is dubbed F9 as The Saga a Speed Racer has turned International action heroes continues. And I’m one of those people that I don’t go to McDonald’s expecting a well-done steak. I know what something is and I appreciate it for that so in terms of Fast and Furious you know what it is. The thing that has me worked up is that somebody calling the shots has decided to bring back Han, the Japanese Speedster of the original crew who was first killed in the second film, Tokyo Drift but was brought back through a series of prequel films that got everything up to speed with his death.

I was always a fan of Han and wasn’t happy when he died but I accepted it. I need answers! How do you have somebody blow up in full sight of everybody in a car crash and bring him back no scars no disfiguration nothing? He just walks into the scene like he’s always been around?

The interesting thing with Fast and Furious that I do give the creators credit for is that they tripped up with the earlier movies and found a way to save the franchise. The first movie was okay, they tried something different with Tokyo Drift and then they went another route with the third movie which was the official sequel 2 Fast 2 Furious set in Miami. At that point, you had loose elements of the two main characters and you hinted at a bigger crew that ran with Dom outside of what we knew so far.

In spite of the fact that one of them had just gotten killed in Tokyo, the writers went back and decided to flesh out that backstory of a street racer family. And that would turn into gold apparently.

What makes this interesting is that had they known the success of these films going forward, Tokyo Drift would have been a perfect movie to release now. Having developed Han as a character with a love interest and his own unique following he would have been perfect for a Tokyo Drift movie solo film without the need of the All American country boy that was featured in the first version.

Imagine a Han spin-off that dives more deeply into the sinister side of his Japanese operation. In fact something like that could go straight to Netflix if they didn’t want to put box office money into it. They’re just so many more options now for the way that they’re trying to expand that universe.

I say all that to say that while I’m happy Han is back, I feel like with every movie the Fast franchise is just doing more and more to rip things away from any sense of reality. We’re probably just counting down until some situation puts them on the moon racing in zero gravity.
